Welcome Fall, My Reprieve

South Florida is often hot and humid. We very rarely ever have those crisp, cool fall-like days. Of course, people from Florida may argue with me, but for the rest of us who know what fall really feels like, Florida misses out every year.

Here’s what happened, though. The other day – Monday, to be exact – I stepped outside as the sun was beginning to set. And I was amazed at how the air felt so different. Mind you, we have dogs so I am outside quite a bit during the day. And all day it was humid and hot. The evening, however, brought a surprise.

It felt so good that I even had to holler for Tina to come outside and feel the air. As if I was instantly transported, my mind began playing a jumbled mix of memories and ideas and thoughts and hopes and excitement. There is pumpkin season, Thanksgiving, and Christmas – and all the warm, fuzzy, nostalgic feelings that come with all of it.

Then, I heard it was the last day of summer. And, it hit me. This moment – with its beautiful breeze and dry (well, less humid) air – was like a peaceful moment after the heat and uncomfortable year that we have had thus far. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

Instantly I felt like this was a reprieve from what was and what is to come. And, I was not going to miss a moment of it. I drove with the AC off and the windows down then took the boys for an evening walk.

It was beautiful. And, it is gone already.

Then Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the LORD opened up a path through the water with a strong east wind. The wind blew all that night, turning the seabed into dry land. So the people of Israel walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on each side.

Exodus 14:21-22

When moments like these arise – we need to acknowledge them. Because just like Moses held up that water, it is only for a time before it comes crashing back down.

Will you recognize the reprieve when you see it? Will you make the most of it?

Until next time… ❤❤
